Leadership Experience:
One aspect of graduate work in Dr. Rieker’s group that I grew to enjoy and would like to pursue in the future is leadership in a research environment. Below are some bullets briefly describing these experiences.
- Mentored 2 Ph.D. students, 4 undergraduates, 2 high school teams’ senior projects
- Involved with hiring decisions of group’s postdocs, Ph.D. students, and undergraduates
- Built up new research spectroscopic laboratory from scratch
- Led equipment purchasing within specified budgets, experimental design and foresight, and subsequent collection of publishable data
- Initiated development and design of extreme environment spectroscopic cell
- Will result in new experimental focus within Rieker group at CU Boulder.
- Supervised two successful spectroscopic field campaigns with hand-built instruments. Results: 1 published paper and another in preparation
- Coordinated with NIST scientists, postdocs, facilities staff, and graduate students.
- Have collaborated with NIST Boulder, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Colorado School of Mines
- Invited to be on department’s graduate committee member for two years
- Co-chaired 100+ person graduate student recruiting event
- Chair of fundraising group for graduate student recruiting event
- Invited to numerous information panels for incoming graduate students
- Developed lecture for high school students on experimental design and fabrication
